Vaishnava Acharayar (Thirukatchi Nambi), Guru of Ramanujam, who was renowed for speaking to the lord (Varadharajar Perumal) every day, was born in poonamalle. He pioneered the stabilisation of Vaishnavism.

The Hanumantha Swamy temple is located in the village of Khiz Ragunathapuram in southern part of Poonamalle.

The temple is known for (Moorthy ,Thalam and Theertham) its 3 different idols (sculptures)

  • The uniqueness of the temple is its deity which depicts Lord Anjaneya carrying the Sanjeevi  Paruvatham Hills.
  • Anughraha Ramar:  Lord Anjaneya gets the blessing and grace of Lord Rama on seeking information about Seetha.
  • The third  idol describes Seetha’s dilemma in deciding whether the messenger is a genuine loyalist of lord Rama or is he a trumpcard in Ravana’s  plot. Anjanaya proves his loyalty by pointing one hand towards the sky and an another towards the earth.

Six hundred years ago the temple was surrounded by ponds and dense forests. During their frequent travel Bhairagi’s paid their tributes to the Lord by performing jabathapams and chanting mantras.

The temple’s Thalavritsham is the Asvatha vritsham (Arasamaram)

Another idol in which Lord krishna is in between two snakes is also present in the ancient temple – 600 years old (Fact confirmed by archeologists)

The  temple was worshipped by my (Thiru.K. Nandabalan, IPS., IG-Commissioner of Police) ancestors, particularly by my maternal grand parents who looked after this temple for more than 100 years.

The temple was in  a dilapidated  condition.  We being a large  family decided to renovate the temple. We sought the advice of Parthasarthy Bhattachariyar,  Chief Priest, Ashta Lakshmi temple, who paid a visit to the temple and blessed my self  & my wife and asked us to speed up the construction.

A Committee was formed and the temple was constructed. The gopuram was designed. Decorated with temple toys under the able guidance of Thiru. Venkata Krishnan an expert Tanjore  artist who is also well read in vaishnavavism and  well conversant in temple procedure.

By the Grace of God we over came all obstacles and completed the construction of temple with three tier vimanam. The Kumbabhishekam was held  on 23rd June 2008 in the presence of Vadapathi siddhar, Annababa, Parthasarthy Bhattachariyar of Ashta Lakshmi temple. Devotie's prayers are constantly answered by Lord Anjaneya and the number of devotees are increasing day by day.
